Extraction of scandium

       LTD. “INRAMTECH” has developed complex enabling technogenic wastes processing  technologies containing scandium, with the extraction of the following commercial products - high purity scandium oxide (Sc2O3: 99,9-99,99%) and REM as the sum of the rare:

  Waste wet magnetic separation (MMS) of the Kachkanar titanomagnetite  GOK ("Eurasia").

Scandium content in the MMC: 90-120 g / m (0,009 - 0,012% by weight) waste. The waste amount, generated per year:  tens of millions of tons. The total volume of accumulated waste: 1 500 million tons.  

 

   The technology features of the sulfuric acid method to extract scandium from wet magnetic separation titan magnetite waste:

• The scandium extraction degree from the feedstock: 70-85% by weight. 
• High purity products (scandium oxide powder): 99.9-99.99% by weight.
• Low production cost of scandium oxide extraction: less than 1 000 USD / kg.
• High production profitability. The market price of scandium oxide 99.9% is over 3 000 - 3 600 USD/kg.  
• Low reagent consumption: 30-40% less compared with other technologies. The use of working      Solutions.
• Environmental safety: no toxic emissions (acidic solutions, etc.) into the environment. 
• The complexity of processing: getting the liquid by-commodity products (gypsum, raw materials for cement industry, etc.), reducing the extraction of scandium oxide cost and general increase in production profitability.
• High return investments:  the capital expenditures volume for the construction of the production line capacity of 1,000 kg of scandium oxide is about 2.5-3 million USD.                                                                                                       

  

  "Red sludges" - a bauxite waste processing for aluminum production (UC RUSAL, and other companies using the Bayer  method processing). 

These wastes are highly toxic. Scandium content of "red sludges": 90-130 g /m (0,009 - 0,013 % wt.). The amount of waste generated per year: up to ten million tons.

     Characteristics of carbonate scandium extraction technologies and the sum of REM "red sludges":   

•  The scandium extraction degree and the rare earth metals from the feedstock: 60-70% by weight. The increase degree of extraction work is in progress. 

• High purity products (scandium oxide powder): 99.9-99.99% by weight.

• Low production cost of oxide scandium extraction: less than 1 000 USD/kg. 
• High profitability. The market price of scandium oxide 99.9% is over 3 000 - 3 600 USD/kg.
• Low reagent consumption. Using of working solutions.
• Environmental safety: no toxic emissions into the environment.
• The processing complexity: getting liquid by-commodity products: REM as the sum of rare, and so on oxide scandium extraction reducing cost and general increase in production profitability.
